This day auction of Impressionist and Modern Art at Christie's November 4, 2004 is highlighted by an unusual beach scene by Corot, a fine work by Henri Le Sidaner, a charming small oil by Miró, and nice landscapes by Boudin, Martin and Sisley.
Lot 285 is a lovely oil on canvas by Henri Le Sidaner (1862-1932) entitled "La petite table." Executed in 1920, it measures 23 7/8 by 29 inches. It has an estimate of $300,000 to $400,000. It sold for $511,500.
Lot 304 is a pleasant, small, untitled oil on canvas by Joan Miró (1893-1983). It measures 6 1/2 by 8 1/2 inches and was executed circa 1949. It was consigned by the estate of Maria-Gaetana Matisse for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It has an estimate of $70,000 to $90,000. It sold for $113,525.
Lot 204 is a very handsome beach scene by Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot (1796-1875) that is an oil on craddled panel that measures 13 5/8 by 26 1/2 inches. Executed in 1873, it has an estimate of $200,000 to $300,000. It sold for $186,700.
Lot 286 is a handsome landscape by Henri Martin (1860-1943) entitled "La Bastide du Vert autour du pont ou Débout du printemps." An oil on canvas that measures 32 by 26 1/8 inches, it was executed circa 1910. It has an estimate of $60,000 to $80,000. It sold for $95,600.
Lot 215 is a very nice landscape by Alfred Sisley (1839-1899) entitled "Coucher de soleil à Port-Marly." An oil on canvas that measures 19 3/4 by 25 3/4 inches, it was executed circa 1876. It has an estimate of $350,000 to $450,000. It failed to sell.
Lot 266 is a nice Venetian scene by Eugene Boudin (1824-1898) that is an oil on canvas that measures 18 1/4 by 25 7/8 inches. Entitled "Venise, Le mole à l'entrée du Grand Canal et la Salute," it was executed in 1895. It has an estimate of $350,000 to $450,000. It failed to sell.
Lot 281 is an oil and charcoal on canvas study for "Le Dos Nu" by Mary Cassatt (1845-1926). It measures 35 1/2 by 28 1/4 inches and was painted circa 1906. It had an estimate of $500,000 to $700,000. It sold for $1,183,500.
