The
Impressionist Art Sale November 7, 2014 at Sotheby's New York is
highlighted by a great interior scene with a nude woman and a mouse by
Valtat, several fine works by Vuillard, a strong Miro, a very good
Tanguy, a couple of very pleasant Renoirs, an impressive d'Espagnat and
an excellent Redon.
Lot 215, "La Souris Blanche," by Louis Valtat (1869-1952) depicts a
nude woman seated on a carpet in front of a white mouse. An oil
on canvas, it measures 32 by6 39 5/8 inches and it once belonged to
Arthur Altschul of New York. It has a modest estimate of $120,000
to $150,000. It failed to sell.
The sale totalled $47,870,500 including buyers' premiums with 71.1
percent of the 322 offered lots selling.

Another floral work by Vuillard, Lot 252, an oil on board that measures
9 1/4 by 9 7/8 inches and was painted circa 1910, had an estimate of
$350,000 to $450,000. It sold
for $425,000.
Lot 403, "Suburb," by
Edouard Vuillard, oil on board, 10 by 12 1/4 inches, circa 1900
Another Vuillard is Lot 403, a
great oil on board entitled "Suburb" that measures 10 by 12 1/4 inches
and was painted circa 1900. It was exhibited at the High Museum
in Atlanta in 1966. It has an estimate of $30,000 to
$40,000. It sold for $37,500.

paper, 10 1/8 by 13 1/2 inches, circa 1925
