Tang pottery ladies


Lots 2292 and 2293 are painted grey Han Dynasty pottery court figures.  The former is kneeling and is 18 inches high.  The latter is standing and is 26 1/4 inches high.

The Septenber 18, 2015 auction at Christie's New York of Fine Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art include several charming Han Dynasty figures,
a handsome Celadon-glazed moon flask, Qianlong Six-Character seal mark in underglzae blue and of the period, 1736-1795, a Junyao foliate rimmed vase from the Song-Jin Dynasty, and a Longquan celadon dragon jar and cover from the Southern Song Dynasty.

Lot 2292 is a painted grey kneeling Han Dynasty court figure that is 18 inches high and is very fine condition and is missing one hand.  It has a modest estimate of $2,000 to $3,000.  It sold for $3,250 including the buyer's premium as do all results mentioned in this article and I was the underbidder.

Lot 2293 is a standing Han Dynasty court figure that is 26 1/4 inches high.  It is missing both hands and its head requires wall support.  It is property of the Jane and Leopold Swergold Collection.  It has an estimate of $2,000 to $3,000.  It sold for $2,500.

Lot 2294 is a red pottery figure of a female dancer from the Han Dynasty.  It is 10 3/4 inches high. It is from J. J. Lally & Co., in New York.  It hgas an estimate of $5,000 to $7,000.  It sold for $5,625.

Lot 2291 is a grey pottery figure of a seated entertainer, Han Dynasty.  It is 8 inches high.  It and Lot 2294 are property of Jane and Leopold Swergold Collection.  It has an estimate of $3,000 to $5,000.  It failed to sell.


Porrery horse

Lot 2296, painted pottery figure of a prancing horse, Tang Dynasty, 17 3/4 inches high

Lot 2296 is an impressive painted pottery figure of a prancing saddled horse from the Tang Dynasty.  Is 17 3/4 inches high.  It has an estimate of $6,000 to $8,000.  It failed to sell.


Vases

Lot 2208, Guan-type faceted mallet vase, 18th-19th Century, left; Lot 2176, Guan-type Cong-form vase, Daoguang six-character seal in underglaze blue and of the period, 1821-1850, 11 inches high, right

Lot 2208 is a lovely Guan-type faceted mallet vase from the 18th-19th Century. It is 9 inches high.  It has an estimate of $4,000 to $6,000.  It sold for $30,000.

Lot 2176 is a Guan-type Cong-form vase with a Daoguang six-character seal in underglaze blue and of the period, 1921-1850.  It is 11 inches high.  It has an estimate of $30,000 to $50,000.  It sold for $62,500.


Draon Jar

Lot 2341 is an impressive celadon dragon jar and cover from the Southern Song Dynasty.  It is 10 1/2 inches high.  It has an estimate of $150,000 to $200,000.  It failed to sell.

Celadon vase

Lot 2162, Celadon-glazed moon flask, Qianlong Six-Character seal mark in underglzae blue and of the period, 1736-1795, 17 3/4 inches high

Lot 2162 is a "magnificent and very rare large celadon-glazed carved moon flask with a Qianlong Six-Character seal mark in underglaze blue and of the period, 1736-1795.  It is 17 3/4 inches high.  No other similar vase of this size and shape has been published according to the catalogue.  It is property of the estate of Marilyn Jones. It has an estimate of $1,000,000 to $1,500,000.  It sold for $2,045,000.

Vase 2239

Lot 2239 is a handsome iron-red decorated blue and white vase from the 18th/19th Century that is 8 7/8 inches high with animal head handles.  it has an estimate of $20,000 to $30,000.  It sold for $30,000.


Foliate vase

Lot 2320 is a lovely Junyao foliate rimmed vase from the Song-Jin Dynasty.  It is 7 1/2 inches high.  It has an estimate of $30,000 to $50,000.  It sold for $112,500.

Pear vase

Lot 2164 is a rare famille rose  facted pear shaped vase with a Qianlong six-character seal mark in iron red and of the period.  It is 11 inches high.  It has an estimate of $600,000 to $800,000.  It sold for $132,500.


Chilong cup

Lot 2243, Doucai chilong cup, 5 3/4 inches high, 18th Century

Lot 2243 is a large Doucai chilong cup from the 18th Century.  It is 5 3/4 inches high and has a red chilong on its side peering into the cup.  It has a modest estimate of $6,000 to $8,000.  It failed to sell.

Lot 2251 is a famille-rose and pale celadon-glazed vase shaped support flanked by two European figures.  It is from the Qianlong Period and it is 16 inches high.  It was once in the collection of John T. Dorrance Jr.  It has an estimate of $60,000 to $80,000.  It sold for $155,000.
