The May 15 afternoon auction at Sotheby's New York of Contemporary Art is highlighted by excellent paintings by Anthony Gormley, Sarah Lucas, Kader Attia, Manolo Valdés, Juan Genovés, Mark Flood, Tony Lewis and El Anatsui.
Lot 445, "Angel of the North," is a bronze by Anthony Gormley (b. 1950) that measures 38 by 103 1/2 by 8 inches. It was created in 1997 and is number 6/12. It has an estimate of $800,000 to $1,200,000. It sold for $1,685,000 including the buyer's premium as do all results mentioned in this article.
This session sold 76 percent of its lots.
