This was the photograph
that launched me on several series of "animated" surfaces.
What fascinated me was how quickly the "spooks"
I would find in the pavement and gutter of New York's streets
would change and disappear as they were eroded not only by the
weather but also by the stomping of pedestrians and the turning
of rubber automobile tires to say nothing of the rough spikes
of street cleaners and the "Dig We Must" contingent.
